About Us

Who are we?

The South Asian Society was founded in the year 2003. The main aim of this society is to create a cultural, social and mutual support network for Devon and Cornwall’s increasingly large South Asian community. SAaS has a wide membership base of people who are drawn from countries surrounding the Indian sub-continent or are part of the Asian Diaspora.

Main Objectives:

1. The provision, in the interests of social welfare, of facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation among persons of South Asian descent, resident in Devon and Cornwall or surrounding areas (the area of benefit), who are in need of such facilities by reason of their financial hardship or social circumstances, with the object of improving their conditions of life.

2. The promotion of racial harmony within the area of benefit by the provision of multicultural events involving different ethnic communities encouraging a better understanding of social, religious and other needs of each community.

Constitution:

South Asian Society has a well-considered constitution describing the various aspects of its operations. If anyone is interested in looking at the Constitution a copy is available from the Chairperson.

Committee:

Dr. Girish Venkatarayappa (Dr. Girish Venkat) is the current Chairperson. The Society is managed by the Trustees.
